Hello, anon!

I would stay away from anything double breasted, as those have a tendency to be cut straighter + there are more opportunities for the coat to pull (more buttons). I would also avoid puffers, mostly from a style standpoint… I tend to hate on them despite their warmth.

A cape, A-line, Swing coat, or belted coat would be good I think, but it always depends on where the largeness is. Something that is a bit shorter (above knee) would also be good to look at, as that eases the proportions of things a bit.

any good tips on how to break in a pair of 10-eyelet docs FAST? they tore up the back of my ankles and i wore two pairs of high socks!

I wish I actually knew!

When I did pointe (and I think E can attest to this), the typical things to help break-in the shoes were closing doors on them and cheese-grating the soles.

A bit of googling has told me similar things that apply to docs: you can sandpaper the inside parts that are particularly rough, and rub leather softener/balm on the outside of the boots to help quicken the process.

ok, I’m sure J and C will have their own input/opinions…

I’m a firm believer in doc martens doing no wrong. they’re great in wet weather, mine have never leaked, and salt stains wash off easily, but I’ve heard the rubber soles can freeze and be slippery if it’s too cold. I kinda want a pair of ll bean duck boots.

also, vans (canvas or otherwise) suck in cold/wet winter weather.

I walk 20 minutes (back and forth) each day to work. I work in an office. For a long time now, I've been looking for a good quality, good ankle support, leather shoe that I can wear to work. Laces could be cool. A slight heel would be wonderful, but mostly I'm trying to find somethign that is well made/built to last. I'm willing to spend 300 dollars if its the perfect shoe, but would rather spend around 100. Any suggestions?

If I walk to work it’s about 30 minutes, and I typically walk in a lace up short boot of some kind that ALSO has a heel. Also, I work in an office! Horrah! Here are ones I own and can wear all day and not have aching feet (which is an accomplishment for someone with a size 10 foot):
